Six Month Smiles is a special type of orthodontic treatment that is able to correct many types of dental issues in about six months. This length of time is substantially shorter than the usual one to two years that are required for standard braces. Six Month Smiles utilizes clear brackets and tooth-colored nickel-titanium wires to apply a continuous low-force movement on the teeth. Our experts recommend Six Month Smiles for patients who can benefit from the cosmetic straightening that is provided from braces, without needing a complex correction to their bite.
Some of the dental issues that can be treated by Six Month Smiles include:
- Spacing issues
- Diastemas
- Overbites
- Open bites
- Crowding
- Asymmetrical teeth
Six Month Smiles Treatment
The first step of Six Month Smiles treatment is to determine whether or not the patient is a good candidate. If they are, our experts will fit their teeth with transparent brackets and tooth-colored arch wires. These devices will be placed in extremely precise positions in order to achieve the fastest, most effective results. When applying these devices, we will start by fusing the clear brackets to the teeth using a bonding agent. Once secure, we will attach the arch wires to the brackets and adjust their positioning to encourage tooth movement.
From there, the patient will need to visit our practice on a monthly basis to have their wires adjusted. The process is very quick, only requiring about 10 to 15 minutes per visit. It will take about six months for their teeth to fully adjust to the desired position; however, this process can take longer if larger issues are being corrected. Once treatment is complete, we will remove the brackets and wires, and the patient will enjoy beautifully straightened teeth. It may still be necessary to use a retainer to maintain the new positioning.
